Period trouble is becoming increasingly common these days, with many girls and women complaining of irregular menstrual cycles. Conditions such as Polycystic Ovarian Disorder (PCOD), Endometriosis etc. are found in almost every other woman. These health issues go hand-in-hand with other ancillary problems like headache, nausea, migraine, mood swings, cramps or period pain during or before the monthly cycle in women. Celebrity Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar posted a video on her Instagram profile on how to tackle these very problems by making small changes in the diet. Take a look at the video here:

“Include these 5 foods to reduce the aches, pain, cramps, migraine, nausea, mood swings, etc, during PMS or period pain,” wrote Rujuta Diwekar in the caption of the post. She shared a couple of foods that can be included in the daily diet for women who are encountering symptoms of the onset of their period or even during the cycle.

Here Are 5 Foods To Help Reduce Period Pain By Celeb Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar:

1. Soaked Raisins And Kesar

This should ideally be had first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach. The combination of black raisins and saffron can help aid period pain and cramps.

2. Ghee

One teaspoon of ghee can be paired with each meal according to Diwekar. The inclusion of ghee in breakfast, lunch and dinner will help reduce the incidence of period-related cramps and nausea.

3. Curd rice

Curd rice is a viable lunch option for those suffering from period pain. Curd rice with legumes can be paired with a homemade fried papad for a delicious, tasty meal without causing any kind of side effects to the body.

4. Nuts

Handful of cashews or peanuts is what Rujuta Diwekar recommends during the painful days. She also suggests pairing this snack with jaggery or gud for curbing sugar cravings and mood swings.

5. Khichdi or Ragi

Leguminous one-pot preparation khichdi is ideal for the period days, as is a dosa or roti made with Ragi. Moong dal batter can also be used for preparing the dish of choice. Other alternatives for whole grains to be had during period can be rajgeera or kuttu. Sabudana Khichdi is also a light dish that can be eaten when in pain.
