Former England batsman Nick Compton was left surprised by Alex Hales’ omission from England’s back-to-training squad while adding he should have been given a chance to redeem himself.

Alex Hales and World Cup-winner Liam Plunkett were both left out of a mammoth 55-man England training group announced Friday.

Nick Compton reacted on Hales’ omission from the side as he took to Twitter to write: I find the Hales treatment ridiculous. I spent a month in the Caribbean with him (cpl) and he was keen to put his mistakes to bed. Some might say the leadership have got a bit ahead of themselves. Stokes made a pretty bad error some time ago, were the rules different then?!

Hales was reportedly axed from England’s World Cup squad for testing positive for recreational drugs just before the showpiece event in 2019.

Earlier, Morgan had dashed hopes of Hales’ return and stated he needs to win back the trust of his teammates again to resurrect his England career.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain also said that batsman Alex Hales has served his time by missing out on the team’s historic day at Lord’s and should be allowed to get back into the team.

“He did the crime but he has served the time and missed out on a World Cup win and one of the great days at Lord’s. Is that not enough of a price to pay?” Hussain said on the Sky Cricket Show as per Daily Mail.

Hales has been in sensational form in limited-overs cricket and enjoyed a tremendous run with the willow in the Big Bash League (BBL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, his run-scoring prowess has been once again ignored by the ECB and only time will tell when the 31-year-old returns to the England squad.
