The woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras who died days after being gang raped and tortured, was strangled and suffered cervical spine injury, her autopsy report has said. The “final diagnosis” does not mention rape. The report has been accessed from the Delhi hospital where the 20-year-old died on Tuesday.
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will visit Hathras in Uttar Pradesh today to meet the family of the 20-year-old woman and whose dead-of-night cremation by the UP police has provoked nationwide outrage. Ahead of their visit, prohibitory orders have been placed in Hathras.

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala slammed the Uttar Pradesh Government after reports of another alleged gang rape incident of a Dalit girl came to light from Balrampur district, just days after the Hathras incident. “Another girl gang raped in Uttar Pradesh. It is terrifying to even think of the incident. Those beasts even broke the victim”s leg and back. Has the law and order died in the State? Is Uttar Pradesh ruled by the Constitution or criminals? When will these kinds of incidents stop? Why does not Yogi Adityanath tender his resignation?” he tweeted.
“The barbaric criminals will definitely be punished for their barbarism. The probe teams are carrying out the investigation. But I think there should not be political tourism on the same. Those who are trying to increase the tension through political tourism, should not do that. Everyone is saddened and want punishment for the culprits, Uttar Pradesh govt is working towards it. You will see the results soon,” Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on rape incidents in Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav slammed the government over the death of Hathras gang rape victim on Thursday. “Hathras victim’s family severally beaten on the order of the government. Have no word to condemn the barbaric and shameful incident, said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday after a young girl was gang raped in Hathras and who died in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday. “Have no words to condemn the barbaric & shameful incident at Hathras involving a young Dalit girl. My deepest condolences to the family,” Mamata Banerjee said in a tweet. “More shameful is the forceful cremation without the family’s presence or consent, exposing those who use slogans & lofty promises for votes,” she added.

Congress national spokesperson PL Punia, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Anil Chaudhary, Congress leader Sushmita Dev will accompany Priyanka Gandhi to Hathras. Before her visit, security has been beefed up at Delhi’s DND flyover, where some Congress workers are protesting.

“After Hathras incident, I had hoped that the UP government will take action against people committing such crimes. Women in this state are not safe,” Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati said.
