But, we tend to make the same kind of desserts every Navratri, and even though we love them all, it would be great if we could experience something new and unique. Sharad Navratri marks the onset of cold weather and a dessert made with khus khus would bring the warmth we so need during this time of transition. So, we tried making halwa with khus khus, topped with our favourite makhana, and it turned turned out to be a smashing hit!
Khus khus is an ideal food to have right now as it is full of antioxidants, which help boost immunity and stave off seasonal infections. Other than that, khus khus is also known to aid digestion, and its high calcium content is good for bones and joints. So, this Navratri, we gorged on khus khus halwa with protein-rich makhana, and loved every bit of it.

Soak and grind khus khus into a paste and roast it in oodles of ghee along with cardamom powder and sugar. Cook it further in milk and garnish with roasted makhanas, almonds and pistachios.
