Nick Kyrgios is a bit shy: Naomi Osaka shocked as Monfils names best dancer on tour

Two-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka was stunned when Gael Monfils said Nick Kyrgios is among the best dancers on the ATP tour and the tennis world hasn’t seen much of the ‘shy’ Australian’s skills.

Naomi Osaka, who has begun a series of Instagram live chats with fellow tennis players, had a fun chat with Frenchman Gael Monfils during the weekend.

With the forced break across the sporting world due to the Covid-19 pandemic, sports stars are keeping in touch by meeting on the virtual world.

Naomi Osaka, who revealed that Monfils is among her favourite players on the tour, asked the Frenchman if he is the best dancer on the tour.

“One of the best, maybe not the best,” Monfils said.

When Monfils was asked to name another good dancer from the tour, he said: “You know, to be honest, Nick is not bad! Nick Kyrgios is not bad at all. He’s a bit shy. He can dance. He’s got some moves. He’s pretty good.”

Osaka was stunned with the reply: “Oh really? I have never seen him dance”

“Because, he’s a bit shy, you know,” Monfils said.

“He’s shy? I’m shocked,” Osaka responded.

Nick Kyrgios is one of the most mercurial characters on the tour. The Australian, who is a bundle of talent, doesn’t hold back when it comes to expressing his emotions on the court or off it.

Meanwhile, 22-year-old player Osaka recently topped Serena Williams on the list of sports stars with maximum annual earnings. Osaka earned $37.4 million over the past 12 months from endorsements and prize money, eclipsing Serena in that span.

Osaka’s total is a one-year record for a female athlete, topping the previous mark of 29.7 million set by Maria Sharapova in 2015, according to Forbes.
