The Undertaker names 6 favourite opponents: Proud of the matches against Triple H and Shawn Michaels

“There is a lot of guys on that list,” says The Undertaker when asked to name some of the greatest opponents in his celebrated WWE career. Having been in the ring for more than 3 decades now, Undertaker has had umpteen memorable match-ups that have pivoted him to become the greatest WWE superstar of all-time.

The Undertaker was quick to name Bret Hart with whom he had one of the most memorable matches of the WWE that gave new narratives to characters of him and Shawn Michaels. The Undertaker, who lost to Hart, in the SummerSlam 1997, said the latter always raised the bar during their duels.

“I had some great matches with some great people. There’s a lot of guys obviously on that list.

Bret Hart

“Bret was smooth as silk. Everything that he did looked really good. He was one of the first guys that I got to expand the character with, and show that I was more than just a gimmick.

“He always raised the bar,” The Undertaker told WWE Network in the latest episode of docu-series ‘The Last Ride’.

Kurt Angle

Undertaker also named Kurt Angle, saying he enjoyed his fights against ‘smaller opponents’.

“I enjoyed working with the guys that were smaller. It was easier for me in the sense of storytelling. They were always bigger than life in the size discrepancy.”

It was no surprise that The Undertaker named Batista against whom he had one of the finest high-octance matches at WrestleMania 23. Undertaker defeated his opponent to extend his WrestleMania streak to 15-0.

“My match with Batista. Two big guys that aren’t thought of having the match of the night. I really enjoyed that match,” The Undertaker said.

Ric Flair

The Undertaker went on to say he was happy that he got the opportunity to work with 16-time World Champion Ric Flair and recalled the story of how he fought against ‘The Nature Boy’ at WrestleMania 18 where he extended his streak to 10-0.

“I remember it was WrestleMania in Toronto. I didn’t have an opponent. Vince McMahon came to me and asked, ‘Would you like to work with this guy, who is up and coming, or would you like to work with Flair?’

“I said, ‘I wanna work with Flair!'”

Triple H and Shawn Michaels

The Undertaker went on to say that he is ‘most proud’ of his WrestleMania matches against Triple H and Shawn Michaels. In fact, Undertaker took on the two legends over a 4 year period that delivered some blockbuster narratives, including the ‘Career vs Streak’ at WrestleMania 26.

“One of the things that I’m proud of is the two matches I had with Shawn, and the two matches I had with Triple H,” Undertaker said.

“It’s very seldom that you get to tell a four-year story. I look back at everything as far as ‘Mania – those four matches are going to be right up there as some of the best things that we ever did.”
