After the Covid-19 pandemic led to the suspension of professional cricket, the governing boards of different teams have been announcing salary deductions and layoffs to deal with the financial crisis caused by the virus.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not asked players to take salary cuts nor the governing body has plans on laying off people, informed BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal.
“The BCCI has done some cost control after the elected office-bearers took charge last October. The process started before the pandemic. But there has been no pay cut or lay-off as of now. We have cut cost on other fronts like travel, hospitality, etc,” Arun Dhumal was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express.
Recently, Cricket West Indies (CWI) said it will halve salaries for staff and players for up to six months as it struggles to deal with the “debilitating economic challenges” caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
CWI said it had delayed the 50% salary cut for staff, players, umpires and coaches, to take effect from July 1, as long as possible and hoped the temporary measure would not last more than three to six months.
Earlier, boards of Australia and Pakistan has also announced salary cuts for players and the working staff.
