HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nicky Kyrgios had earlier slammed Novak Djokovic for organising Adria Tour event
  • Kyrgios had referred to Novak Djokovic’s decision to hold Adria Tour as ‘boneheaded’
  • 4 tennis players including Novak Djokovic were tested positive for Covid-19 during the charity event

The battle of words, direct or indirect between Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic continues as the Australian has this time come up with a throwback video showing him toying around with the class of mighty Novak Djokovic.

It’s not that Nicky Kyrgios has done something against Novak Djokovic for the first time. Just before the Adria Tour debacle, Kyrgios in an Instagram Live chat with Andy Murray had said that the Scot plays better against him than the Serbian world number 1.

“Djokovic was playing dodgeball on my serve and you were slapping it for a winner. He was trying to dodge it, you were on it like a light,” Kyrgios had told.

Things have escalated after the disastrous Adria Tour organised by Novak Djokovic. The charity event faced all kinds of backlash after 4 players including Novak Djokovic and Grigor Dimitrov were tested positive for the virus. Novak Djokovic recently announced that he has recovered from the affects of the deadly virus and more recently slammed his critics accusing him of a “witch-hunt”.

Mercurial Nick Kyrgios has came back and replied in his own way. In an Instagram throwback video on Thursday, Kyrgios can be seen playing a backhand winner against Djokovic. Kyrgios’s winner in the video is leaving Djokovic with no chance but just to stand and look as the ball passes by from his left side. Kyrgios can be seen celebrating the point in his typical fashion.

Nick Kyrgios used lyrics from British rapper Jay1’s ‘Mocking it’ to caption his video. “Talk shit but I’m doing what I do, you wouldn’t last if I put you in my shoes,” read Kyrgios’s caption.

“It’s obviously more than just criticism, it’s like an agenda and a witch-hunt are on. Someone has to take the fall, a big name,” Novak Djokovic had said while responding to the criticisms against him for organising the Adria Tour in Balkan region.

After Borna Coric confirmed his positive Covid-19 result, Nick Kyrgios had taken a shot against Djokovic and said, “Boneheaded decision to go ahead with the ‘exhibition’ speedy recovery fellas, but that’s what happens when you disregard all protocols. This IS NOT A JOKE.” Players like Andy Murray had also joined Djokovic in criticising Novak Djokovic. who has constantly raised questions over hosting the 2020 US Open.

Notably, Nick Kyrgios has played twice against 17-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic and have prevailed over him in both the matches.
