The season change has not been a welcome affair for many. Instances of cold, cough and flu are on the rise and our immunity has taken a hit. But can we sit back and do nothing about it? No. We have been negligent about our health for far too long, but not anymore, at least not this year. You must consult an expert if you sense anything odd, and report any sign or symptom that does not seem ‘okay’. Additionally, it is also a good idea to revamp your diet a bit. Perhaps include something seasonal, some herbs and spices that are naturally known to boost immunity.
You would be surprised to know that your kitchen is loaded with healing superfoods. From lentils to herbs and to greens, there is so much that you can include in your diet which may help you fight infections. This dal palak ka shorba is a fine example. It blends the goodness of tur dal, spinach, cumin seeds, ginger and garlic. It has a delicious, soothing flavour.

The wholesome soup when consumed warm could help unclog the nose, and also soothe your throat. Tur dal is an excellent source of protein that can be found easily in Indian kitchens, many experts have found links between protein intake and increased immunity. Moreover, it is also a very good source of plant-based antioxidants. Spinach on the other hand is a rich source of Vitamin A, C and zinc, all of which are renowned for their disease-fighting capabilities. Other key ingredients like ginger and garlic have also been in the limelight for their immunity-boosting powers off late. Let’s admit kit, we have all used them in our kadhas and herbal teas. According to the book Healing Foods by DK Publishing, ginger’s “volatile oils have anti-inflammatory properties similar to those of  NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), which makes it an excellent remedy for flu”.
