1. Broccoli:

As per consultant nutritionist Ruali Datta, “Broccoli is loaded with an anti-inflammatory compound named Sulforaphane.” As per several studies, this compound may help protect lungs from toxic damages.

2. Carrots:

Alongside promoting lung health, carrots are known to counter the effects of smoking – a factor that increases COVID risk, as per CDC. As per a study published in the journal Nutrition Research and Practice, carrots are loaded with beta carotene that “provide some protection to smokers who are exposed to an increased risk of numerous cancers and other degenerative diseases”.

3. Leafy greens:

Vegetables like spinach, kale, cabbage etc are loaded with vitamin A, C, E and K, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that are known to boost lung-health. “They also contain a strong antioxidant, B-carotene, which is known for its potential for scavenging free radicals and protecting the body from damage,” Datta added.

4. Citrus fruits:

A good source of vitamin C and antioxidants, citrus fruits like lemon, orange etc help prevent the body from inflammation and free radical damages. A study published in the British Medical Journal further stated that consumption of vitamin C may help limit asthma and different other respiratory troubles.

5. Berries:

Berries are known to be the storehouse of antioxidants, and according to the American Cancer Society, they help protect lungs from various troubles. Alongside, a study published in The American Journal Of Clinical Nutrition found that the dietary flavonoids in berries (especially blueberries) can help slow down age-related lung function decline.
