One cannot argue about how India is a melting pot of different cultures and cuisines. The array of delicious delicacies that one can find across India’s length and breadth is a treat to the taste buds. And while one can easily find Gujarati, Maharashtrian, Rajasthani or Bengali dishes in different parts of the world, there are many that cannot be traced much anywhere else apart from the region it belongs to. Dogri cuisine from Jammu is one such that has a wide range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies yet very little is known about it since it cannot be found much outside of the state.

The famous food culture from the Dogra community, this cuisine uses a lot of local produce that makes for a sumptuous meal on the table. It is famous for simple dishes with rich flavours such as ambal, khatta meat, auria (potato curry) and more! The breads from the meal too are no less. Ghyoor, also spelt as ‘gheur’ and pronounced as ‘kh-you-r’ is a traditional recipe usually prepared when the bride enters the home for the first time as a welcome dish. It is often served with potato curry but can also be relished as is.
