Hope the wine is flowing nicely: Ravi Shastri responds to Michael Vaughan’s birthday wish

Wishes have been pouring in for Ravi Shastri as the India head coach turned 58 on Wednesday, May 27. Shastri has taken time out to respond personally to most of the messages he has been getting on social media.

Former England batsman Michael Vaughan took to social media to wish Ravi Shastri on the special day.

“Happy birthday @RaviShastriOfc. Hope the (wine glass emoji) flowing nicely,” Vaughan wrote.

Ravi Shastri thanked Michael Vaughan and said he is waiting for a Sunday roast.

“Thanks, Vaughny. Be my guest. Waiting for a Sunday roast,” Shastri wrote.

Ravi Shastri has been responding to the messages that have come his way in his own inimitable style.

India captain Virat Kohli was among the first ones to wish the India head coach on his 58th birthday.

“Many seem confident but only few are brave. Happy birthday Ravi bhai. God bless,” Kohli wrote.

Responding to Kohli’s post, Shastri said: “thank you, Skipper. Get ready to UNLOCK. We draw engery from team and vice-versa. Wishing for more laughter, figthbacks and victories.”

Sachin Tendulkar wished Ravi Shastri and said he has fond memories of playing with him for India and Mumbai.
“Thanks, BOSS. It was an honour and a privilege to see you from 22 yards. Regards to the family. UNLOCK SOON,” Shastri’s response read.

Responding to Rohit Sharma’s message, Shastri said: “Thanks a ton, SHARMAAAAAA. Hope you are ready to break free when the time comes Thumbs up. I’m sure that the little one is keeping you on your toes in the lockdown. God Bless.”

RavI Shastri, speaking on Sky Sports podcast, had said that the break due to the Covid-19 can be seen as a blessing in disguise for contracted India players who have been managing their tight schedules over the last few years.

“[This rest] cannot be a bad thing because towards the end of the New Zealand tour, you could see some cracks coming up when it came to mental fatigue, physical fitness and injuries,” Shastri said.

“The amount of cricket we have played over the last ten months, that was beginning to take its toll.”
