Few things as satisfying: Virender Sehwag and family cook food at home for migrants


On Thursday, Sehwag posted some pictures on social media, where he was seen cooking food for the migrant labourers. He also urged others to contribute to the cause through his foundation.

The ongoing Covid-19 shutdown has led to a humanitarian crisis in the country and has rendered lakhs of informal workers jobless. The stranded migrant workers have run out of food and cash and many have also starved to death due to the ongoing crisis. During these testing times, volunteers and civil society organizations are trying to reach out to the migrant labourers and do their bit.

Former India cricketers Virender Sehwag is also one of those who is helping out the stranded migrants.

On Thursday, Sehwag posted some pictures on social media, where he was seen cooking food for the migrant labourers. He also urged others to contribute to the cause through his foundation.

“The satisfaction of cooking and packing food from the comfort of your own homes and getting it distributed to the most needy migrant labourers in these times is a satisfaction few things can match. If you would like to contribute by making good for 100 people from your own hone please DM on Twitter to @sehwagfoundatn,” Sehwag wrote on Instagram.

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh appreciated the gesture of his former teammate and lauded him for his noble gesture.

“Well done lala,” Harbhajan wrote on Sehwag’s post.

Indian Railways has been started ‘Shramik Special’ trains for the stranded migrant workers and have ferried over 44 lakh since May 1. According to Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Puri, an additional 41,673 people had traveled to their home states via flights till 5 pm on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court directed the central and state government to immediately provide adequate transport arrangements, food and shelters free of cost to migrant labourers stranded across the country due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
